Parliamentary Group looking at UK Government communications surveillance plans 29/06/2009
The All Party Parliamentary Group on Privacy, of which PI is the Secretariat, is meeting on July 1st to review the Government's plans for a 'Interception Modernisation Programme'.

PI hosts workshop in Bangkok on Privacy in Asia 28/05/2009
Privacy International ran a three-day workshop in Bangkok from May 22 to May 24 with partners from Bangladesh, Hong Kong, India, Nepal, Pakistan, the Philippines, and Thailand to work on how to advance privacy protections in their countries and in the region.

1st Korean Big Brother Awards (external) 22/11/2005
Korean Progressive Network Jimbonet and other NGOs held the 1st Big Brother Awards Korea on 22 November in Seoul. Winners were the National ID Card, the Ministry of Information and Communication, and "Phantom of Samsung SDI''. The National Intelligence Service received a special prize and the DNA Database of Convicted Criminals by Police and Prosecution was chosen the most popular by Netizens.

U.S. Big Brother Awards 2005 31/03/2005
On April 14th, 2005 Privacy International will hold the 7th annual U.S. Big Brother Awards to shame the invaders and celebrate the champions of privacy. The ceremony will be held at the 2005 Computers, Freedom, and Privacy Conference, in Seattle.

The 5th French Big Brother Awards were held on 21 January 2005 at the Centre Cuturel La Clé in Paris.

Annual meeting of FOI commissioners, government officials and advocates. it was held at the Gran Meliá Hotel Cancún, City of Cancun, Mexico from February 20-23, 2005.

Big Brother Awards Switzerland 2004 27/08/2004
The 5th annual Swiss ceremony of the Big Brother Awards will take place on 16 October in the city of Emmen. The slogan 'Nicht lamentieren, nominieren' (don't lament, nominate!) now calls on a special new category of victims of Big Brother; workers that are being controlled at the work-floor with the help of video-camera's and key-loggers. Deadline for nominations is 31 August 2004.

Privacy in a New Era: Challenges, Opportunities and Partnerships 04/08/2004
EPIC, Privacy International and EDRI are organizing the 'Privacy in a New Era: Challenges, Opportunities and Partnerships' on 13 September 2004 in Wroclaw, Poland. This conference aims to provide an opportunity for civil society leaders and academic experts, particularly in the New European Union Member States, to meet with European data protection authorities and to explore emerging challenges to the protection of personal privacy. The event will be held in conjunction with the annual meeting of the International Conference on Privacy and Data Protection Commissioners. There are a limited number of fellowships available for representatives of non-governmental/non-commercial organizations from EU New Member States.

PI, EPIC Hold 2004 U.S. Big Brother Awards 21/04/2004
EPIC and Privacy International held the 2004 US Big Brother Awards at the Conference on Computers, Freedom and Privacy on 21 April. California Senator Liz Figueroa received a Brandeis Award for her excellent work to protect and champion privacy. "Most Invasive Proposal" went to Seisint for its role in creating the Multistate Anti-Terrorism Information Exchange Program (MATRIX). "Worst Agency" went to the Transportation Security Administration for its operation of the "No-Fly" lists. "Greatest Corporate Invader" went to NorthWest Airlines for its provision of passenger information to the government

Scrambling for Safety 7 - Conference on ISP Surveillance - 22 October 2003 22/10/2003
Privacy International and the Foundation for Information Policy are holding a half day conference on Wednesday, 22nd October 2003 on the UK governments plans on data retention. Scrambling for Safety 7 will have representatives from government, civil society and industry debating the new government proposals requiring communications companies to monitor their users' activities and provide the information to government bodies without a court order. Attendance is free.

Australian Big Brother Awards 2003 08/09/2003
The Australian Privacy Foundation held the 1st Australian Big Brother Awards on 8 September 2003. The winners were Attorney General Darryl Williams (lifetime menace), the Internet Industry Association (corporate invader), the TICA Default Tenancy Control (technology) and Senator Chris Ellison (worst public official).

Public Meeting on UK ID Card Proposal 22/11/2002
Privacy International is organising a public meeting on the UK Government's Entitlement Card proposal on 11 December 2002 at the London School of Economics. Speakers include Lord Falconer and Stephen Harrison, Head of the Entitlement Cards Unit, Home Office.
