Data Exploitation Principles

Data exploitation is made possible by our dramatic loss of control over what, why and by whom data about us is processed. The internet of ‘things’ is actually an internet of sensors and connected devices that results in a perpetual creation of data. The spaces and environments we inhabit and pass through generate and collect data from human behaviour. This data is used to identify and profile individuals, generate intelligence about collectives and groups, and to anticipate and shape future behaviour. Our rules and safeguards are unprepared for this new reality.

These principles aim to re-establish a necessary balance.
