Peter is a recognised expert on international human rights law and policy, particularly on issues of freedom of expression and digital rights.
Peter is the Director of the Bertha Justice Initiative. He co-founded and led the Media Legal Defence Initiative, an award-winning NGO that works globally to provide legal defence to independent media, journalists and bloggers under threat. He has also worked with the Open Society Foundations, a grant making foundation, and ARTICLE 19, a free speech advocacy organisation.
Peter is an experienced manager, fundraiser, organisation-builder and campaigner and has worked worldwide in countries ranging from Russia and the US to Malaysia and Zimbabwe. He regularly consults to organisations such as the UN and the Council of Europe as well as to NGOs on issues of human rights and freedom of expression law and policy, and he has written and published on issues such as the right to be forgotten and the interplay between journalism and the law.
