V. International governance issues

International Obligations and Cooperation

Indonesia is a signatory to international treaties, which have direct application in Indonesian courts. In the human rights area Indonesia has already ratified nine international human rights instruments. These laws form a strong legal basis for causes of actions in the court.

Unfortunately, Indonesia lags behind in terms of personal data protection. Although the Ministry of Public Civil Servants drafted the Data Protection Bill to implement the OECD Privacy Guidelines, EU Directives, and APEC draft privacy framework, so far, this Bill has not been submitted to the Parliament.
