Facial recognition installed to monitor employees in first nation school
The Eskasoni Teachers' Union are raising concerns after facial recognition scanners were installed in the Eskasoni First Nation's school.
The union are particularly concerned as the scanners have had issues with accuracy and privacy. The scanners themselves are made by a US company - a fact creating concern about how and where the biometric data of users is being stored. Moreover, no other school has implemented similar technology in the state, leading the union to feel their First Nations school has been singledout.
The union is calling for use of the system to be paused.
