Ngee Ann Polytechnic announced a pilot programme using facial recognition technology in selected classrooms to automate attendance taking and support class management. The system uses artificial intelligence and data analytics to verify student identities and streamline administrative processes.

The institution said the technology could also be used to monitor student engagement through facial expressions and behavioural indicators. Beyond the classroom, facial recognition is being explored for campus security purposes, including detecting unauthorised individuals in restricted areas and generating real-time alerts to security personnel.
