Guadalajara introduce facial recognition in 10 schools
10 high schools in Guadalajara are introducing facial recognition as part of an initiative called Tu Sonrisa Checa, intending to manage school attendance.
The initiative doesn't have approval from the data protection authority, nor has the initiative completed the legally required data protection impact assessment. Nor is it clear yet which schools will take part.
However, the municipal government have agreed to pay for the equipment and software licenses, from a company called Viuk S.A. de C.V., which will then be loaned to the state Ministry of Education.
